Firstly, you are not depressed. You just have depressive habits. You constantly isolate yourself, listen to sad songs, avoid exercising, and scroll through short-form videos all day. How do you expect to be happy, and live a fulfilling life?
On the bright side, you are just proving Newton's first law of motion:
When you are depressed, oftentimes the opportunities to get out of the dump feel even more painful because by then you get used to having problems and being stuck. Time and tide wait for none, and the opportunities leave you there in that dump, forever...
But here's the good news. There is a way out, and that is through acceptance. We have normalized being "the one in the problem", the depressed one, and playing the victim card. I know this is harsh but, that's the reality. We have normalized being the victim and not the brave one. Now, the brave ones are the ones who are constantly mocked and bullied.
Will I be depressed forever then? No, and that's the beauty of it.
So far, I have briefed you about the problem, and now it's time to enlighten you with the solution:
below are 3 habits to include in your routine to apply that net force on yourself to stop you from spiraling down the depression stairs.
1. Stop listening to music:
Don't just stop listening to sad songs, stop listening to it altogether. Music have the ability to play with our emotions on an entirely different level. The dopamine rushes we get by listening to a song, leave us drained after a while, and we feel tired even without doing anything physically, then we listen to another song and the cycle continues.
Hence, it's better to avoid music completely. If you are an addict, and just can't live without music, then try not to listen to any song before 1:00 p.m. because many experiments have been conducted, which concluded that our minds work at their fullest during the early hours, so by not listening to music in those hours, your brain is unaffected and you can be productive.
This is optional but you can replace music with podcasts, audiobooks, and more. Here's a link to a blog post of mine wherein I suggested a funny podcast, including much more (click here)
2. Get Dressed up to the 9th:
Take a shower, wear your favorite outfit, put on some perfume, makeup, jewelry, and other accessories, and then get to work.
Storytime, in my 9th grade, I went to school, all dressed up, as it was my birthday. Everybody in my class was in their uniforms, and I was in my casuals, looking stunning. That day, I impressed all my teachers. I kid you not, I was overflowing with confidence and raising my hands the second a question was thrown at us.
That happened because of the dopamine and serotonin that were released in my brain. Dopamine and serotonin are proven to improve one's creative and analytical abilities, and much more. There are many other pros of getting dressed up.
3. Food. Diet. Nutrition.
Observe what you are consuming, Food if the fuel. And the quality of the fuel determines how the vehicle performs.
Fun Fact: There are specialists hired to test the effects of the fuel on the performance of the cars. The better the quality of the fuel, the better the performance, and the higher the value of the fuel.
Therefore, fuel matters. The food that you consume should include the basic essentials, such as proteins, carbs, vitamins, etc.
Conclusion:
Firstly, you are not depressed, you just do depressive things.
Secondly, you can get out of the dump only when you accept that you need to apply the net force to stop the depression motion and live your life.
Furthermore, 3 habits that will help you stop being stuck in the dump and get going:
1. Stop listening to music.
2. Getting dressed up to the 9th.
3. Food. Diet. Nutrition.
