Books can change how we perceive things like no other modes of information. They contain the magic element that forces us to put those 2 brain cells to work.
In today's blog post, I will be sharing 3 books you must read in 2024, that will change your life.
1. A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle
"Stupidity is relatively harmless, but intelligent stupidity is highly dangerous."
We are well aware of the fact that we are chained to our egos, it controls our desires and fears and contradicts our morals.
This book acts as a guide to help us live a fulfilling life. I'm a religious person, and what awed me about this book was I found pieces of evidence to back up what was earlier just a religious thing to do. For instance, Islam says to live in the present, forget the past, and don't worry about the future, just live here and now, and so does the book.
This is just one thing, there are many such guidelines given in the book that will surely help you to enrich your life.
"Mastery of life is not a question of control, but of finding a balance between human and being."
2. The Almanack of Naval Ravikant by Eric Jorgenson
"Getting rich is not just about luck, happiness is not just a trait we are born with."
This book contains the unique wisdom of Naval on earning money, investments, personal development, and life. In simple words, this book is about creating wealth and being happy.
"Don't take yourself so seriously, you're just a monkey with a plan."
"When everyone is sick, we no longer consider it a disease."
3. The courage to be disliked by Ichiro Kisjimi and Fumitake Koga
"You must not use the power of anger to look away."
The format of this book is a conversation between a philosopher and a man, a youth. The most amazing thing is that this book doesn't preach you to do this and that to be happy, but rather it lays down a discussion between the philosopher and the youth arguing, stating what we would have if we were in the same shoes.
If this book is read without understanding it will lead to controversies. For example, there is a concept in this book about vertical and horizontal relationships, the vertical relationship is when we place ourselves either above or below us. And in a horizontal relationship, we are all equals.
One of the suggestions in horizontal relationships is avoiding complimenting or insulting anyone, rather to only give them affirmation. Sounds absurd, but in reality, it works like a charm.
Give it a try and let me know in the comments how it went. Instead of telling someone "Hey, you look pretty" say "Thank you for your time, it was fun." the second sentence will be a longer-lasting source of happiness for that person.
There's just so much in this book that I would like to unload here, but alas, I will only bore you with words. Just read the book, it's not only a conversation, there is a story that we follow, and it's interesting to read as well.
"The more one is praised by another person, the more one forms the belief that one has no ability"
"To get rid of one's problems, all one can do is live in the universe all alone."
Warning: There is no one-size-fits-all in self-help. Everyone has their own battle, and honestly, even if you read all the books ever written you can't change, until and unless you decide to change and get better, yes a self-help book can be a guide to help you along, but you are the one who is in command.
